The previous latrines at E&K School were in unusable condition. After a portion of the roof was stolen by thieves in the night, rain water corrupted the foundation and part of the floor and dividing wall collapsed.

The previous situation posed a health and safety hazard. NDK was able to raise funds to construct new pit latrines to service the school. The new structure has a brick liner to prevent seepage into ground water supplies. It also uses superior fired bricks and mortar as opposed to the mud brick previous structure. There are septic pumping services that can maintain the latrines extending the lifespan to approx 20 years. The new structure has greatly improved the quality of life at the school.
